Mrs. Christine “Christy” King is the Choral Director at Countryside High School where she also teaches AP Music Theory and Piano classes. She has served as the High School Choral Representative for the Pinellas County Music Educators' Association (PCMEA) for three of her four-year tenure in Pinellas County Schools. King has been invited as a clinician and presenter; her most recent collaborations include: high school and middle school clinician for the 2022 Pasco All County, clinician and conductor for the 2021 Pinellas All County Middle School Chorus, presenter at district training on simultaneous teaching techniques in the choral classroom, and district curriculum writer for the Chorus 1 classroom (2020). She has music directed musicals at Countryside High for Music Man (2019) and Little Women (2020). King also serves in the Performing Arts Cadre of Pinellas County Schools as a high school chorus teacher mentor and as a teacher mentor at Countryside High School.
Mrs. King holds a Master of Music in Music Education from Boston University (Boston, MA). She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from College of Charleston (Charleston, SC). King was named Emerging Teacher of the Year at Countryside High School in the 2019-2020 school year. In her time at Countryside, choirs under her direction have received excellent and superior ratings at MPA events. The Countryside Chorus qualified for State MPA for the first time in seven years, under King’s direction in 2020. Mrs. King is also the co-sponsor of the Tri-M National Music Honor Society at Countryside High.
Prior to teaching at Countryside, King was on faculty at the Cape Conservatory (Barnstable, MA), where she directed the Debut Choir (Cape Youth Chorale/Cape Cod Children’s Chorus), and taught private voice lessons, composition, theory, songwriting, and early childhood music classes. In addition, she served as the Director of Education & Outreach for the Cape Symphony & Conservatory, leading music education programs and concerts in the nine school districts and the communities on Cape Cod. King has also been a music theory and aural skills tutor at the university level.
King is currently a vocalist in the audition-only choral ensemble, the Festival Singers of Florida, under the direction of Dr. Kevin Fenton. She has sung in many other highly esteemed ensembles in the Eastern United States. Her arrangements and compositions have been commissioned for an array of ensembles in the Southern region, such as the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. King is a certified Music K-12 Educator for the state of Florida and is certified as an AP Instructor as well as a Conversational Solfege teacher. She is an active member of NAfME, FMEA, FVA, ACDA, and PCMEA.
