The Countryside Chorus has been in existence since the conception of Countryside High School, in 1980. Countryside High School choirs have been under the distinct direction of William Renfroe, Shelli Long, Samuel L. Hayward, Jessica Franchie-Rogers, Kevin Prina, Ann Adair, and Christine King.
The performing arts has a long history of excellence. The Countryside Chorus has received superior and excellent ratings at the district and state level. They have frequently performed at the Disney Candlelight Professional, and other state and country festivals. In the 2019-2020 school year, 21 Countryside chorus students were accepted into the 2020 All County Honor Choirs. In the 2020-2021 school year, Countryside chorus singer Amanda Coleman was accepted as one of only three vocalists in the Florida honor ensemble, the Popular Music Collective. Alumn Amanda Coleman (CHS '21) and Caitlin Coleman (CHS '19) were both backup singers for Rod Wave's performance on the Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show in 2021.
The Countryside Chorus is active throughout the Countryside High School community, performing and volunteering at sporting events and other school evnets. The ensembles are active in performing Clearwater, Safety Harbor, and Dunedin communities. The chorus' goal is to engage in community both in our school and local community.
Students wishing to join chorus need not have any singing or music experience. Our Chorus 1 classes start students at the beginning of singing techniques and reading music.
Students with singing experience (10th-12th grade) can audition for Varsity Chorus. Varsity Chorus is an audition-only ensemble and the director may still place the student in JV Captains or Junior Varsity Chorus based on the audition and the student's experience level.
Beyond Junior Varsity, JV Captains, and Varsity Chorus, students also collaborate to create a Bass Choir, Treble Choir, and Combined Choirs. Choirs sing music ranging from renaissance choral pieces to contemporary pop a capella songs.
All students perform at fall, winter, spring, and MPA concerts each year. Students in advanced and intermediate ensembles have other performances and commitments in the community. All students are able to audition for All County and All State Honor Choirs. Please visit our "Ensembles" page to learn more about our various groups. If you would like to book the Countryside Chorus to sing at your event, or make a donation, please visit our "Contact" and "Support" pages.
